Firaxis has revealed its highly anticipated, Civilization 7, will boast more races and “representative” leaders.

“We do that throughout the first year of development, the Leaders and Civ options, and everyone has their preferences,” Shirk explained. “We have community feedback from past games for people who we know they want to see come back. We’ve got a process to make sure we have representation. around the world looking for new leaders, digging deep into history, and saying, look at this person, this is great, we want to represent them.

The “relevant” process also leads to the expertise of home historians who not only approve of the “relevant” leaders but also the “unrecognized” ones.

“We have all of 2K’s local team on speed dial to make sure we can always talk to them about who would be a good representative for some part of the world,” added Shirk.

“Our home history is making recommendations for not only Civilizations and Leaders that we think will be very popular, but also for those that are not known that we want to represent. So, it’s just is a big bucket of discoveries. It’s just a lot of back and forth, but it’s a very exciting process.”

Civilization 7 – the long-awaited installment in the developer Firaxis’ beloved 4X strategy series – will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, Switch, and PC on February 11th, 2025.

Buyers can choose from three different options. First off, the Standard Edition costs £60 (£50 on Switch) and includes the base game and not much else. There’s also the £90 Deluxe Edition (£80 on Switch), which includes five days of “advanced access” starting on February 6th, the Tecumseh and Shawnee Pack, the Deluxe Content Pack, and later releases out Crossroads of the World Collection.

In case you missed it, Sean Bean has passed on his role as narrator to another Game of Thrones alum: Brienne of Tarth (well, Gwendoline Christie, but you know what I mean).
