The Sons of the Forest’s cannibal-infested trees have been quiet lately. After a successful early access period, it was launched in February last year, with the developer Endnight Games providing constant updates on its first four months after release. However, the studio has been quiet since the hot fix in June, with no updates, announcements, or even tweets in the second half of 2024.
That’s all changed now. On Wednesday, Endnight Games announced the monster of a patch, adding many important things to its survival, making many improvements such as improving weapon aiming and extending the world border, and fixing scores based on bugs.
The main new addition to Sons of the Jungle is “3 buildable ships” with mooring poles to stop them from floating out into the ocean. In its Steam announcement, Endnight games didn’t provide much information about the rafts beyond the fact that they exist, but a YouTube video published by the guys from the Forest Channel makes a lot of sense. again for these small boats. Players can build small and large rafts that are exposed to the elements, as well as a shelter that comes with a cozy roofed area. All three rafts can be equipped with survival tools like beds and chairs made of human bones, while players move them around the lake and the ocean with a the paddle attachment.

Along with the rafts, the update adds “holder” models for the glider and the Knight V electric unicycle, and a new system for placing protective walls. According to Endnight, this system lets you “mark out where you want the walls and let Kelvin finish them”. Kelvin is a useful game for the human companion.
That’s it for all the new stuff, but Endnight has also updated a lot of how Sons of the Forest works. Aiming has been improved for various weapons-such as the crossbow, crossbow, crossbow, rifle and pistol-while the flight of the arrows has been tweaked for “competitive trajectory when shooting the bow”. The map is even bigger, with Endnight expanding the boundaries of the world so that your new rafts have more room to float around.
Capping off patches is the latest in bug fixes, covering everything from sleeping characters to glitchy cannibal corpses. Here are a few particularly funny examples. “Fixed cannibal jaws sometimes look wrong during death animation” conjures some funny images, while I like to think of the discussion around “French territory for ‘brain bite'”. My favorite, however, is “The player will not be cold or frozen in the hell cave”. Frankly, this is the least I want from the hell cave.
You can read all the new titles here. Maybe this is a sign that I need to jump back into Sons of the Jungle. I played a fair amount of it in early access, and dug into its craft for a quick bit, but never went back to the full release. PCG alumnus Sarah James made her own choice in our 2023 Game of the Year award, however, lost 40 hours in the game mode without compromise.
