Description

Riot has released a new teaser for the upcoming game League of Legends season, and the developer is once again collaborating with Fortiche. The new trailer, “Welcome to Noxus,” shows that many of the Noxian champion races and battles – including Mel, a council member from Piltover, who is heading to the Immortal Bastion in search of answers.

Welcome to Noxus is, in some ways, exactly what you would expect from a pre-season movie. There’s some cool competition between the rivals, with Katarina and Elise duking it out at a fancy ball in Noxus while Trundle and Darius engage in bare-knuckle competition in the icy realm of the Freljord. But there is a danger of developing the story here, and the movie ends with the leaders of Black Rose scheming about their next steps.

The next season of League of Legendswhich starts on January 9, will bring a Noxus-themed season to the map, changing the terrain and turrets to fit the country’s military theme. There is also a new skin line, Masque of the Black Rose, which features a handful of contestants attending a beautiful dance party hosted by the Black Rose. Welcome to Noxus to show us the goods and things of this party, which was rudely crashed by Katarina. Katarina is an assassin loyal to Swain, the current leader of Noxus, so it seems there is still a battle between Noxian power players.

Intriguingly, we saw LeBlanc and Vladimir appear at the end of the cinematic. They don’t match their appearance in-game, unfortunately, but they are still recognizable as characters. This may be a teaser for future updates to the champions. It also seems clear that LeBlanc is the mystery person who met Mel in season 2 of Arcane. In fact, this new season, Masque of the Black Rose, and the conversation between LeBlanc and Vladimir seems to be a direct continuation of the end of Arcane ride 2. This shows that Arcane is definitely the mainline canon, which is an interesting phenomenon.

If you want to know more about Black Rose, League of Legends language, and how Arcane relation to it all, the video above from Necrit is a deep dive into the topic by a long-time guardian of the game’s difficult canon.

We will get to see more of Noxus and how this cinematic struggle unfolds throughout the first season. There are many possible explanations surrounding Noxus: the time bomb of Mordekaiser hidden in the Immortal Bastion, Swain’s conversation with a demon named Raum, Thresh’s soul coming of the unfortunate Noxian bar staff, and the ongoing conflict brought by Darius into the Freljord.

The new season of League of Legends released on January 9 at 12pm PST / 3pm EST.
