Larian is also preparing for Baldur’s Gate 3’s next attempt at Patch 8, which he previously announced would include cross-play support, graphics modes, and 12 new subclasses. In the first community update for 2025 Larian has now shared a few more things about what Patch 8 has in store, before showing off the picture mode of the potential of memes.
Community update #32 kicked off with a warning about the said trial, which players can still sign up for here. Larian especially wants to see how players “get on” with the campaign “so we can make some small changes before Patch 8 is released”. The studio also warns players that, while Mac includes crossplay support, Mac players “will not be able to participate in stress testing at this time.”
Next up, Larian revealed one of the bug-specific Patch 8 will be with the bigger new features it will add. It’s not a long list but, this being Baldur’s Gate 3, it still makes for fun reading. As of Patch 8 Barcus the gnome will not be “Mike Wazowski did by various objects such as cauldrons and bottles prevent him from leaving the view when you talk to him at the Last Light. Many believed to have happened in Moonrise Towers. “
With the changelog out of the way, Larian revealed a few more details about the image mode, specifically about when and where you can use it. In games and battles, you can use the entire suite of graphics mode features. “Position (the character) as you like, change the face to suit the situation, and play with the camera, lens and setting.” During the dialogue and cinematics, however, the image quality is more limited. “You won’t be able to change the camera or put it on your party, but you will have access to a whole bunch of post-processing effects, such as color-levels, frames and stickers .”
To round off the update, Larian yields the floor to the community, revealing some of the frustrations he’s created with the image so far. You can view all the pictures herebut I must immediately share what I have dubbed ‘Distracted bear-friend’, by reddit user u/bwubwerr, if only for the sheer, unbridled swagger of the grizzly.
Yes, he knows he got it.
